El 4to Foro Mundial de Desarrollo Económico Local (DEL) se celebrará en la ciudad de Praia (Cabo Verde) del 17 al 20 de octubre de 2017.

El evento está organizado por el Gobierno de Cabo Verde, la red mundial de Ciudades y Gobiernos Locales Unidos (CGLU) y su Comité de DEL, a través del Fondo Andaluz de Municipios para la Solidaridad Internacional (FAMSI), la Organización de las Regiones Unidas (ORU FOGAR) , la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT), el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD) y las anteriores organizaciones anfitrionas, el Servicio Brasileño de Apoyo a las Micro y Pequeñas Empresas (SEBRAE) y la Municipalidad y Ciudad Metropolitana de Turín.

El Foro sigue el éxito del 2do Foro Regional de DEL para América Latina y el Caribe, celebrado en junio pasado en Cochabamba, Bolivia. El evento, que fue inaugurado por el Presidente del Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia, Evo Morales, reunió a casi 1.500 participantes que durante cuatro días discutieron cómo el enfoque del DEL puede contribuir a lograr un desarrollo más equitativo y sostenible.

Considerando que el DEL es un medio importante para implementar los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS) a nivel local, el 4to Foro Mundial proporcionará un espacio para una reflexión crítica y se esforzará por promover discusiones creativas sobre cómo podemos hacer las cosas de manera diferente para enfrentar las desigualdades crecientes y lograr un desarrollo más justo, equitativo y sostenible para todos.

El 4to Foro tendrá como objetivo explorar, específicamente, tres áreas temáticas principales alrededor del DEL como base para:

1. territorios integrados y cohesivos,
2. sociedades resilientes y pacíficas en contextos frágiles, y
3. economías sostenibles e inclusivas.

El evento también tendrá un enfoque especial sobre los Pequeños Estados Insulares en Desarrollo (SIDS).

El Foro forma parte de un proceso continuo que tiene por objeto facilitar el diálogo y promover intercambios sobre el DEL entre una amplia gama de partes interesadas, incluidos los gobiernos nacionales y sub-nacionales, el sector privado, el mundo académico y la sociedad civil. El evento también tiene como objetivo fomentar la cooperación concreta y promover acciones conjuntas que puedan ayudar a aterrizar la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible a nivel local.

El proceso del Foro comenzó en 2011 con la celebración del 1er foro en Sevilla (España) y continuó con las 2ª y 3ª ediciones celebradas en 2013 en Foz do Iguacu (Brasil) y en 2015 en Turín (Italia) - que ofreció la oportunidad de presentar las experiencias de delegaciones de más de 100 países y revisar críticamente sus experiencias territoriales (haga clic aquí para leer los informes de las últimas ediciones del foro y haga clic aquí para ver los videos).

The4th World Forum of Local Economic Development will be celebrated in the city of Praia (Cabo Verde) from the 17th to 20th of October 2017.

The event is organized by Government of Cabo Verde, the global network of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and its Committee on LED, through the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI), the Organization of United Regions (ORU FOGAR), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the previous host organizations, the Brazilian Service of Support for Micro and Small Enterprises (SEBRAE), and the Municipality and Metropolitan City of Turin.

The Forum follows the success of the 2nd Regional Forum of LED for Latin America and the Caribbean, celebrated last June in Cochabamba, Bolivia. The event, which was opened by the President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Evo Morales, gathered almost 1,500 participants that over four days discussed how the LED approach can contribute to achieving a more equitable and sustainable development.

Considering LED as an important means for implementing the SDGs at the local level, the 4th World Forum will provide a space for a critical reflection and it will strive to promote creative discussions on how can we do things differently in order to address rising inequalities and achieve a more just, equal and sustainable development for all.

The 4th Forum will aim to explore, specifically, three main thematic areas around LED as a foundation for:

1. integrated and cohesive territories,
2. resilient and peaceful societies in fragile contexts, and
3. sustainable and inclusive economies. 

The event will also have a special focus on Small Island developing States (SIDS).

The Forum is part of an ongoing process which aims at facilitating a dialogue and at promoting exchanges on LED among a wide array of engaged stakeholders, including national and sub-national governments, the private sector, academia and civil society. The event also aims at encouraging concrete cooperation and promoting joint actions that can help landing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the local level. 

The Forum’s process started in 2011 with the celebration of the 1st forum in Seville (Spain) and continued with the 2nd and 3rd editions celebrated in 2013 in Foz do Iguacu (Brazil) and in 2015 in Turin (Italy) - which offered the opportunity to present the experiences of delegations from over 100 countries and critically review their territorial experiences (click here to read the reports of the past editions of the forum and click here to watch the videos).
